From accepted match to the loading dock, on one record.

Shipment turns an accepted match or claim into a tracked movement, carrying chain of custody from origin to recipient. Completed Gifts in Kind claims flow straight into it, and the record ends where delivery confirmation begins.

What Shipment is

Shipment is the movement record in ImpactMatrix. An organization creates a shipment from a matched Offer or a completed Gifts in Kind claim, then tracks it from origin to recipient with chain of custody maintained along the way. The shipment feeds Deliveries, where the recipient confirms arrival and a receipt is generated.

Questions

What is chain of custody for donated goods?

Chain of custody is the record of everyone who handled a donation between donor and recipient. In ImpactMatrix, a shipment created from a matched Offer or claimed Gifts in Kind listing carries that record from origin to recipient and ends with a confirmed delivery.

How is a shipment created?

From an accepted match in AI Match or an accepted Request to Claim in Gifts in Kind. The goods, quantity, donor and destination carry over into the shipment, so nothing is retyped between the yes and the truck.

Is this a warehouse management system?

No. Shipment records movement and custody between organizations rather than managing racks, bins and barcodes inside a warehouse. Large warehouse operations usually keep their existing system and use ImpactMatrix for inter-organization coordination and proof.

Does ImpactMatrix provide the transport?

No. The platform records the movement; it does not drive the truck. If you need capacity, post it as a Need — freight, trailer space and volunteer transport are among the things organizations offer on the network.

Six organization types use ImpactMatrix: nonprofits, foundations, government, suppliers, business and academia.
