The Humanitarian Intelligence Hub is a unified operational view for monitoring emerging risk, spatial impact and response intelligence in real time. Nonprofits use it as a geospatial workspace where alert layers sit next to the needs those alerts are about to create.

What a humanitarian intelligence hub is
A humanitarian intelligence hub is a single operational map that combines hazard alerts, disaster data and needs information so a response team can see risk and requirement together. In ImpactMatrix, the HIH is a geospatial workspace with an Alert Intelligence Overview and six workspaces, among them: Alerts, Disaster Data and Needs Assessment — filtered by source, time range and state or country, with a country preview that doesn't require editing your organization profile.
What you can do
What a nonprofit actually uses the map for.
Watch active alerts across your service area with National Weather Service among the sources. For an organization covering four counties, this replaces four browser tabs and a weather app.
Look at the event rather than the warning — what happened, where, and how widely, so your deployment decision has spatial context.
The layer that makes this operational instead of informational: alerts next to what organizations are actually asking for in the affected area.
Pattern analytics and a 30-day rolling view of disaster frequency and critical spikes across the connected sources.
State, county and local reference data, so a decision is grounded in a specific geography.
See which data sources are connected and live before you act on what the map shows.
Narrow to a source such as NWS Weather, a recent time window, and your state — the view an operations lead needs at 6am, not a global feed.
Look at another country's picture without editing your organization profile. Useful when a diaspora community you serve is affected by an event overseas.
Using the hub in a response cycle
Set your area and window
Filter to your state and a recent time range, with the sources you trust. This is the standing view for your operations lead.
Turn on the Needs Assessment layer
Alerts tell you what's happening; needs tell you what it's costing. Together they tell you where to pre-position.
Move on it
Post the Needs you expect to have, check Find Supplies for the hazard, and open coordination in your Internal Matrix before the first call comes in.
Why nonprofits get alerts but not intelligence
The problem
Alerting is a solved problem — everyone gets the warning. What nonprofits don't get is the warning next to the requirement: which shelters are opening, what's already short, and whether the partner who normally covers that county is already committed elsewhere.
What the platform does
One geospatial workspace with alerts, disaster data and needs assessment as layers, filtered by source, window and geography, and connected to the same network where those needs get posted and matched.
The artifact
A map you can screenshot for a partner call that shows the hazard, the affected area and the open needs together — and a record that you pre-positioned rather than reacted.
Not an EOC system, not an alerting authority
Emergency operations software runs incident boards for agencies with an EOC and a procurement cycle. Official alerting systems are the authority on warnings and always will be. The HIH sits in the gap most nonprofits live in: it consumes public alert feeds, puts them next to live needs, and requires nothing more than a trial account to start watching.
Use ImpactMatrix when
You want hazard alerts and live needs in one view, for an organization that will never buy enterprise emergency operations software.
Use something else when
You need an official public warning system, or an incident-management board that your jurisdiction has already standardized on. We complement those rather than replacing them.

Questions
What is a Humanitarian Intelligence Hub?
A Humanitarian Intelligence Hub is a unified operational view for monitoring emerging risk, spatial impact and response intelligence in real time. In ImpactMatrix it is a geospatial workspace with an Alert Intelligence Overview and layers for Alerts, Disaster Data and Needs Assessment, filtered by source, time range and geography.
Where does the alert data come from?
Sources include National Weather Service weather alerts, and the public ImpactMatrix site also draws on USGS, MeteoAlarm, EMSC and GDACS feeds. ImpactMatrix consumes these public feeds for situational awareness and is not itself an alerting authority — official warnings always come from the issuing agency.
How can a nonprofit monitor disaster alerts in one map?
Open the Humanitarian Intelligence Hub, filter to your state and a recent time window, and turn on the Alerts, Disaster Data and Needs Assessment layers. That gives one view of the hazard, the affected area and the needs organizations have already posted there.
Can I look at another country without changing my profile?
Yes. The hub includes a country preview so you can review another country's picture without editing your organization profile. This matters for organizations serving diaspora communities or supporting partners abroad while their own operations stay domestic.
Do I need a paid plan for the Intelligence Hub?
The hub is available during the 30-day free trial, which requires no credit card. Afterwards it's part of the nonprofit subscription, which is seat-based from $29.99 per month for a single user, with lower per-user rates on Growth, Community and Enterprise plans.
