About this event

Typhoon Champi (2026) – Western Pacific Typhoon Champi is a large, powerful tropical cyclone in the western Pacific. It intensified from a tropical storm to the equivalent of a Category 4 hurricane in under two days, passed within 10 miles of southern Guam with winds above 130 mph, and reached super typhoon strength shortly afterward. Guam, Rota and the Northern Mariana Islands were under typhoon and tropical storm warnings during its passage. The storm is now tracking toward Japan's southern islands and Taiwan. Heavy rain, destructive winds and high waves could affect the Sakishima Islands before it nears Taiwan. Taiwan's weather agency expects Champi to turn north earlier than first forecast, sparing Taiwan a direct hit but still bringing heavy rain to the north of the island on Friday and Saturday (Oct 23–24), with northern Taiwan and Yilan facing possible heavy or extremely heavy rain. This event is for organisations coordinating needs, offers and response for communities affected in Guam and the Mariana Islands, the Ryukyu/Sakishima Islands and Taiwan. Details will be updated as impact assessments become available.
